Maxxis Rekon Tyre

Inspired by the Maxxis Ikon, The Rekon is an aggressive XC tyre for technical terrain

Recommended Use: Cross Country All Mountain/Trail

Description

What technology does it use in its construction?

The Rekon is available in Maxxis' popular EXO casing or EXO+ casing for additional puncture and tear protection on rougher terrain. The compounds on offer for this model are the 3C Maxx Speed, prioritising longevity and low rolling resistance, or the intermediate 3C Maxx Terra, balancing fast rolling characteristics with supportive grip.

What is the intended use?

Inheriting most of the design aspects from Maxxis' cross country race tyre the 'Ikon'. The Rekon is aimed at the aggresive XC rider on intermediate and technical terrain, better suited in dry conditions. The widely spaced tread pattern provides control under braking, whilst the ramped centre tread keeps the tyre rolling fast. Paired with the aggressive side knobs for confidence in ripping loose turns, the Rekon is a great XC and All Mountain all rounder.

Our verdict

If you race XC or want a fast rear tyre the Rekon is the perfect Trail and XC weapon for aggressive Cross Country courses. Better suited to hardpack and drier conditions, this tyre provides optimal speed, support and traction in corners.

Details & Technology

Casing (choose from the following)

  • EXO

EXO casing is the most popular casing from Maxxis, and features a densely woven fabric which is flexible and lightweight to protect against cuts and punctures. This is recommended for trail riding, all mountain and occasional enduro

  • EXO +

The EXO+ casing has a layer of EXO protection with an additional layer inside of SilkShield which will help protect the entire tyre from punctures and tears

Compound (choose from the following)

  • 3C Maxx Terra

Three different compounds (3C), harder at the base, softer at the edges and medium in the middle. Maxx Terra is an intermediate blend to roll fast but still give good supportive grip. Designed to be used across all mountain biking disciplines from XC to downhill

  • 3C Maxx Speed

Three different compounds (3C), harder at the base, softer at the edges and medium in the middle. Maxx Speed is a harder blend to prioritise speed and low rolling resistance. Best used for cross country or dry, hardpack racing.
